Stephen Quinn

Every painting begins with a visual concept that reflects the mood the piece is to portray. The work evolves as multiple layers of texture are shaped, carved and manipulated. During my creative sessions, an almost indescribable feeling washes over me. I feel joy, peace and a connection with source energy that I rarely find outside of nature.

Stephen’s Gallery coming soon.

Biography

Growing up in Rural Ohio, most of my time was spent outdoors. While attending film school, the beaches of South Florida were my place to attune to nature. I have since lived in the incredible Cloud Forests of Panama and finally settled in the Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. To this day it is important for me to get into natural environments in order to get grounded as well as creatively recharged. My original works capture the essence of the natural world. The textures of rock, tree bark, clouds and water often emerge within the many layers.

Art can be found anywhere and everywhere. Aside from nature my inspirations come from emotional experience, the aging of objects as well as images on the screen. In addition to over thirteen years as an Artist, I have also worked in television most of my career. These two creative endeavors have positively influenced one another. Directing, lighting and shooting for television has had a huge impact on my art. The way I frame up a shot and the way I compose a painting are very similar. There is an emotional and rhythmic aspect of scriptwriting that also shows up in the textural marks I love to make.
