Biography
I have been a studio artist for over 40 years. My work has been widely exhibited nationally and is in private and municipal collections in the U.S., Canada and abroad. My initial attraction to painting is to the physicality of paint itself--the way it plays on the surface of the substrate, the way it interacts and redefines itself. Early on, I focused on painting the figure. Those many nostalgic paintings found kindred spirits but eventually I turned my attention to non-objective and abstracted subjects and to equine themes. The horse paintings have most clearly defined my career. My animal painting highlight the sentience of my subjects, recognizing their self awareness and capacity for deep emotion including joy and pain. With the acknowledgement of this sentience, comes the responsibility to treat animals with respect and kindness.
